Looking to buy Taiwanese tea for clients, friends, or family in mainland China, but not sure if you can ship it there? Rest assured, shipping Taiwanese tea to China is completely fine. However, there are weight restrictions and a few key rules to keep in mind to avoid shipments being returned.
Restrictions & Tips for Shipping Taiwanese Tea to Mainland China
Currently, you can ship Taiwanese tea to mainland China via Chunghwa Post, SF Express, or Mini Three Links logistics services, with SF Express and Chunghwa Post being the most popular options. Weight limits: Post office shipments must be under 2 kg (packages over 2 kg must be split into multiple boxes). SF Express shipments must be under 5 kg.
Important Considerations
Personal Use Only: Shipments must adhere to “reasonable personal use.” Excess quantities may be rejected and returned.
Customs & Taxes: If the declared value exceeds NT$3,000, a 13% tax applies and must be paid by the recipient. Final valuation is determined by Customs—even if you declare under NT$3,000, tax will still apply if Customs assesses the value to be higher than NT$3,000.
Quantity Limits: For SF Express, identical tea products are limited to 10 packs per shipment. It’s best to split larger quantities into multiple boxes.
Packaging Wording: Avoid labels containing words like “Taiwan” or “Republic of China” (ROC), as these may fail customs clearance. Also, avoid using newspapers or books as packing material. Competition tea packaging often features “Republic of China”—it’s best to unpack the outer box before shipping.
Regulations for shipping Taiwanese tea to mainland China have tightened since the pandemic, and import duties can be steep. For bulk or commercial shipments, it’s best to consult a professional freight handler; shipments over 100 kg can also be sent via Mini Three Links logistics. Please note: Mainland customs policies can change frequently (due to temporary regulations, National Day holidays, unforeseen events, etc.). We strongly recommend calling to confirm current requirements before sending your shipment.
