Fushou Lishan Tea Prices: Is NT$1,000 per 600 g Reasonable for Fushou Lishan Tea?

An overseas tea enthusiast asks: What is a reasonable price for Fushou Lishan tea? Some people in the market sell hand-picked 150 g packages for only NT$300, or 300 g and 600 g for just NT$500 and NT$1,000, claiming it’s authentic Fushou Lishan tea sold directly by the farmer, which is why it’s so cheap. Is this price reliable?

Reasonable Fushou Lishan Tea Prices

Let’s talk about the price of Fushou Lishan tea. Known for its high quality, unique flavor, and high production costs, Fushou Lishan tea is never cheap on the tea market. The store manager has discussed the production costs of Fushou Lishan tea with farmers: just for fertilizer, tea picking wages, tea making wages, pesticides, and irrigation, the cost alone for 600 g of Fushou Lishan tea reaches NT$800–1,200. This doesn’t even include land costs (land rent near Fushou Mountain Farm is quite expensive), tea factory equipment (which is costly), marketing, and transportation expenses. Therefore, 600 g of Fushou Lishan tea for NT$1,000 on the market is nearly impossible; farmers have no reason to lower prices or sell at a loss. Furthermore, Fushou Lishan tea is the most popular origin in the Lishan tea region, with demand far exceeding supply. You couldn’t even buy it at the origin for NT$1,000 per 600 g, let alone after it passes through multiple hands to the market.

So, what should a reasonable price for Fushou Lishan tea be?

The official prices from Fushou Mountain Farm are NT$9,000 and NT$7,000 per 600 g. General Fushou Lishan tea is roughly half the price of the farm’s tea, while well-managed, high-altitude tea gardens command prices close to those of Fushou Mountain Farm. Taking spring or winter tea as an example, the price of Fushou Lishan tea ranges between NT$4,000 and NT$8,000 per 600 g. For autumn tea, the price is roughly NT$1,800 to NT$3,000 per 600 g.

Fushou Lishan tea is a star origin among Taiwan’s high mountain teas, with low yield and high demand, making it a strong seller’s market. Much of the high-quality Fushou Lishan tea is reserved by tea merchants before harvest. Even lower-grade teas sell out quickly when offered cheaply to retail tourists, and they certainly wouldn’t end up on the market for NT$800 per 600 g.
