The growth of this year’s spring tea in the Cuifeng tea region is quite satisfying. Neighboring Cingjing Meifeng (beside the NTU Experimental Forest) and Songgang (below Bowang New Village) are not falling behind either. Among them, a few tea gardens boast both great quality and yield—the tea farmers truly deserve immense credit for pulling off such impressive results despite the drought!
Meifeng Tea Region: Outstanding. There are only three main tea gardens in Meifeng, all located at ultra-high altitudes. Premium tea regions like this rely entirely on top-notch management, so quality is guaranteed. The only slight drawback is that the yield is only about 90% compared to previous years. Due to the higher altitude, the main harvest won’t kick off until mid-to-late May. The tea leaf quality easily reaches Cuifeng’s high standards—giving it a solid 78 points is well-deserved.
Songgang Tea Region: Right next to Meifeng, with very similar altitude and aspect. However, the store manager feels that Meifeng’s tea garden management is superior; this year’s spring tea conditions clearly show that Meifeng has the edge. Many tea trees in Songgang look like they haven’t had enough water, and the harvested leaves appear a bit lackluster. Good tea gardens score around 75 points, while the weaker ones hover around 60. The main harvest period will arrive by mid-May.
Conclusion: The Meifeng and Songgang area definitely deserves close attention. Make a note of which tea gardens are thriving, and come back in mid-May to grab the best batches.
