Customer Inquiry: I’m a Taiwanese businessman operating in China. Recently, Taiwanese tea has become extremely popular in Shanghai, easily selling for over RMB 1,000 per 500 grams. It’s tempting, so I’d like to know the current selling price of Lishan tea exported to China. I’d like to wholesale some to sell in China. Thank you!
Chang-Sing Tea Mill: In recent years, allowing mainland tourists to visit Taiwan and lowering tariffs on Taiwanese tea exports to China have led to a booming export market. Because of its exceptional quality, Taiwanese tea is loved by mainland consumers, and tea farmers’ incomes have grown—all of which are great things to see. However, this has also caused high-mountain tea prices to rise rapidly over the past few years. You used to be able to get a decent Alishan tea for NT$1,000 per 600 g, but now you need NT$1,500 to get that same quality.
If you want to wholesale Lishan tea to sell in China, we recommend taking a trip to Lishan yourself. Not only can you buy directly from tea farmers to lower your costs, but you can also gain some marketing insights. If you can’t make the trip in person, here is a price quote from Chang-Sing Tea Mill: Lishan Spring tea ranges from NT$1,800 to NT$2,600 per 600 g. Lishan Autumn tea ranges from NT$1,200 to NT$1,500 per 600 g. Lishan Winter tea ranges from NT$2,200 to NT$2,800 per 600 g.
