Importing Chinese Mainland Tea into Taiwan?

Liao Chang Xing: Hello Mr. Tang, thank you for reaching out. We apologize, but we do not import Chinese white tea. Currently, Taiwan still maintains restrictions on tea imports from mainland China. Aside from Pu-erh tea, other types of tea cannot be imported into Taiwan. We do not offer proxy import services for mainland Chinese tea, and we appreciate your understanding!

Can You Import Tea Independently?

To prevent the dumping of mainland tea and the re-importation of Taiwan-style tea produced in mainland China back into Taiwan, regulations regarding mainland tea imports are very strict. Non-Pu-erh teas—such as white tea, oolong tea, yellow tea, green tea, and black tea—are restricted and cannot be imported. Aside from small quantities brought in by travelers, these mainland teas are rarely seen in Taiwan.

Importing Chinese tea into Taiwan

▲Pu-erh tea, Anhua dark tea, and other post-fermented teas are the only mainland Chinese teas permitted for import into Taiwan.

In recent years, much of the Taiwan-style tea produced in mainland China has been declared under the category of Pu-erh tea and re-imported into Taiwan at low prices. The Taiwan government has taken note of this trend and recently stepped up inspections. If your client intends to sell mainland Chinese tea in Taiwan, we recommend focusing on post-fermented teas like Pu-erh or dark tea. Do not mix in other tea varieties to avoid legal penalties.
