Our second high-altitude winter tea of the year comes from Ren’ai Township: Cuifeng High Mountain Cold Tea, selected under our strict criteria to “exceed Lishan tea standards.” If you serve this to your neighbors without revealing where it’s from, they’ll swear it’s premium Lishan tea.
Produced by the best-managed tea factory in Cuifeng, this estate uses 100% soybean meal fertilizer in truly astounding quantities. The photo above was taken during the autumn harvest in August. I initially wondered if they only fertilized the roadside plots for show, so I took a detour deep into the tea garden. I was floored—the entire estate was so heavily fertilized that it was practically drowning out the weeds.
This level of fertilization ranks among the absolute top in all of Taiwan’s tea regions, Lishan included. You can imagine the incredible depth, body, and substance in tea leaves grown with such massive nutrition!
On the palate, this tea is rich, robust, and full-bodied. Even better, it remains smooth without turning bitter or astringent, no matter how long you steep it. I ran multiple tests at 3, 8, and 10 minutes—and even at 15 minutes, it tasted intensely rich and concentrated, but still not bitter at all.
