We closely monitored two primary tea gardens in the area. Unfortunately, one of them was caught in the heavy rains of April 24th. There is an old saying in the tea world that picking three days early yields a treasure, while picking three days late yields mere grass. This speaks to the absolute necessity of leaf tenderness. That garden missed its golden harvest window; the post-rain moisture muted the aroma and the leaves lost their delicate edge, causing the quality to fall far below our standards. It is a true shame because that garden was exceptionally well-managed and nourished. It simply proves that tea making is at the mercy of nature—no matter how hard you work, if the weather does not cooperate, perfection is out of reach.
Because the other tea leaves lacked tenderness and were oversaturated with rain, the trial brews were a total disaster, leaving this particular Zhangshuhu batch as the “sole hope of the village.” When I finally held this tea in my hands, my heart was racing and my hands were literally trembling! The moment the water hit the leaves, that crisp and chilling mountain character surged forth, and once I caught that long-lost orchid fragrance within the tea, the heavy burden on my heart finally lifted.
