Cuiluan again! Every time I mention Cuiluan, I have to emphasize that it’s no small tea area. It’s actually the largest tea-producing area in the back mountain region of Lishan (梨山), with a yield that rivals Xinjayang (新佳陽) in the front mountain—I’m not entirely sure which produces more, but both yield massive amounts. More importantly, they are “partners in adversity” whose fame falls far short of their actual production volume.
However, a lesser-known origin comes with its own perks: farmers can’t rely on a famous name to sell their tea, so the tea has to speak for itself through sheer quality. A lot of the farmers in Cuiluan are real pros; they maintain their tea gardens meticulously and don’t skimp on high-quality fertilizers. If you take the time to hunt for gems here, you can find teas that match the quality of Dayuling (大禹嶺)—at less than a third of the price!
