Customer Inquiry: I tried Chinese Qimen Black Tea during a trip to Hong Kong and loved it. I’ve been missing it ever since returning to Taiwan. Where can I buy Chinese black tea in Taiwan? I’d love to get my hands on Qimen Black Tea, Lapsang Souchong, Gongfu black tea, Chuanhong, etc. Thank you!
Chang-Hsing Tea Co.: Chinese black teas come in a wonderful variety and exceptional quality, and many people in Taiwan enjoy them too. However, due to regulations in Taiwan, aside from dark teas (heicha), other teas imported from mainland China—such as green tea, black tea, oolong tea, and white tea—cannot be imported into Taiwan. So I’m afraid we have to disappoint you, as you likely won’t find Chinese black tea for sale in Taiwan.
Aside from small amounts brought back by travelers, there’s no way to ship Chinese black tea into Taiwan via sea or air freight. While mainland Chinese black tea is fantastic, Taiwan’s Honey Black Tea and SunMoon Lake Black Tea are also exceptionally popular and rival the quality of tea from across the strait.
