Since joining the WTO, Taiwan’s tea import tariffs have decreased, and import volumes have gradually increased. Currently, the majority of imported tea comes from Vietnam, China, Indonesia, India, and Sri Lanka. Annual tea imports amount to approximately 30,000 metric tons, with Vietnamese tea accounting for 70%, or about 21,000 tons.
Among these, Vietnamese tea is mostly semi-fermented tea, subject to an import tariff of 25%. The tariff for Pu’er tea from China is 17%. Additionally, the import tariffs for both black tea and green tea are 17%.
It is important to note that, to protect Taiwanese tea, semi-fermented tea, black tea, and green tea produced in China are currently not permitted for import into Taiwan. Only post-fermented tea from China—specifically Pu’er tea—can legally enter Taiwan.
