Nangang Tea Region

During the Qing Dynasty, two immigrants from Anxi brought tea plants to the Dakeng area of Nangang and began producing Pouchong tea. Due to its exceptional quality, they shared their techniques with fellow villagers and industry peers, and Pouchong tea gradually spread outward from the Nangang region. It is fair to say that the Nangang tea region is the birthplace of Pouchong tea!

Due to industrial and commercial development, tea production in the Nangang tea region of Taipei City has become quite limited. Today, tea is cultivated by only about 20 farming households along Jiuzhuang Street in Jiuzhuang Village. Despite this, the Nangang tea region holds a significant place in the history of Taiwanese tea development. Without the original Nangang Pouchong tea of the past, the thriving popularity of modern Wenshan Pouchong tea would not exist today.

Although tea production is small, the government continues to promote local tea culture. Visitors can explore the Nangang Tea Manufacturing Demonstration Factory, as well as scenic spots such as the Osmanthus Trail, Osmanthus Suspension Bridge, coal seam outcrops, the Yu Family Historic Residence, and the Luku Incident Memorial Park, making it a wonderful area to visit and explore.
