Lugu Tea Region

Located in Lugu Township, Nantou County, the Lugu tea region sits at an elevation of 600 to 1,500 meters with an average annual temperature of 23°C. Featuring hilly terrain and abundant rainfall, the area provides ideal conditions for tea cultivation, leading to a long history of tea farming. Lugu is the birthplace of semi-balled Pouchong tea, and the famous Dongding Oolong tea originated right here in this region.

Today, the tea region is divided into two main areas. The traditional tea area (centered around Dongding Mountain) sits at an elevation of about 600 to 800 meters and primarily produces roasted Oolong tea; however, due to declining soil fertility, its yield has gradually decreased. The other is the Dalunshan tea area, sitting at 1,000 to 1,500 meters, which focuses on high-mountain lightly roasted Oolong and currently serves as Lugu’s main tea-producing hub.

Spanning approximately 2,000 hectares of tea gardens with an annual production of around 1,700 tons, the primary tea varietals grown here include Qingxin Oolong, JinXuan, CuiYu, and Sijichun, which are crafted into Oolong tea and Guifei Black Tea.
