Customer Inquiry: Hello, I’d like to promote Taiwan tea in mainland China. Could you tell me roughly how much Lishan Oolong tea costs? I’ve seen prices in tea shops ranging from NT$500 to NT$8,000, which is a huge gap, and I’m really worried about buying fake products. Could you please provide a price quote for Lishan Oolong tea?
What is a reasonable price for Lishan Oolong tea?
Liao Chang Xing: Hello Mr. Zheng, thank you for your message. Lishan Oolong tea is rarely priced below NT$1,500 per 600 g! Taking the 2013 spring tea as an example, prices were all above NT$1,600 per 600 g, and that’s just the wholesale price—winter tea is even more expensive. Only a small amount of autumn tea runs around NT$1,200 per 600 g. Regardless, authentic Lishan Oolong tea on the market is simply unlikely to sell for just NT$500 per 600 g.
If you plan to go into business and promote Taiwanese tea in mainland China, we recommend taking a trip to Lishan in person. This will help you understand the characteristics of Lishan tea, which will definitely benefit your future promotions. You can also connect directly with local tea farmers and factories, which not only saves you from the worry of getting fake tea, but also yields higher profits. Here is a share of this year’s Lishan Oolong tea wholesale prices:
Around Huanshan settlement, it’s about NT$1,600 per 600 g (wholesale price, same below); Songmao settlement is about NT$1,700–2,500 per 600 g; Hsin Jiayang is NT$1,800–2,300 per 600 g; HuaGung is NT$3,500–5,000 per 600 g; Cuiluan is NT$1,700–2,500 per 600 g; Cuifeng is NT$1,600–2,200 per 600 g. These prices are not absolute; the quality and production costs of each batch of tea vary. You are welcome to negotiate in person—you might even secure an even better price. If you need small-batch wholesale, you are also welcome to contact Liao Chang Xing. Wishing you great success in your business!
▲ Lishan Oolong tea is difficult to produce and involves high costs, which is why it is priced higher than lowland teas.
2022 Update: Due to rising raw material costs, origin prices have been adjusted multiple times. Huanshan and Songmao bulk wholesale price is NT$2,000–2,400 per 600 g. Hsin Jiayang is NT$2,000–2,600 per 600 g. HuaGung is NT$1,900–7,500 per 600 g. Cuiluan is NT$1,800–2,500 per 600 g. Cuifeng is NT$1,400–2,600 per 600 g.
