Lishan Tea Prices: Is NT$800 per 600 g for Lishan Tea Reasonable?

Customer inquiry: What is a reasonable price for Lishan tea? I’ve seen extremely low prices on the market, such as NT$300 for 150 g of hand-picked tea, and just NT$400 or NT$800 for 300 g or 600 g, claimed to be authentic Fushou Lishan tea. Is this believable?

Reasonable Lishan Tea Prices

Lishan tea is renowned for its high quality, unique mountain aroma, and high production costs, meaning market prices certainly won’t be cheap. The store manager once asked farmers privately about the production costs of Lishan tea. Fertilizer, tea-plucking labor, tea-making labor, pesticides, and irrigation alone cost NT$700-800 per 600 g—and that doesn’t even include land costs (Lishan farmland rent is very high), tea factory equipment (well-established tea factories start at NT$20 million), marketing, and transportation. Therefore, Lishan tea must cost at least NT$700 because no one runs a business at a loss.

Could the NT$800 per 600 g Fushou Lishan tea mentioned earlier on the market actually be real? The reality is no, because Lishan tea yields are low and it is a 100% seller’s market. Even autumn tea is in high demand, so farmers have no need to lower prices to sell, let alone sell at a loss. Furthermore, Fushou Lishan tea is the absolute pinnacle of Lishan origins; if you went to the origin and offered NT$800 per 600 g, no farmer would pay you any mind, let alone after it passes through multiple hands to reach the market.

So, what is a reasonable price per 600 g for Lishan tea?

Fushou Mountain Farm sells for NT$9,000 and NT$7,000 per 600 g, while Wuling Farm’s Wuling Changqing Tea ranges from NT$5,600 to NT$9,000 per 600 g. Thanks to their brand recognition, these two farms command higher prices than typical Lishan tea. Authentic Lishan tea on the market generally runs about half to two-thirds of the prices at the two farms mentioned above. Lishan Tea Price FAQ

What is a reasonable price for Fushou Lishan tea?

Retail prices for spring and winter teas start at NT$4,000, and anything up to NT$7,000 per 600 g is considered reasonable. Fushou Lishan tea generally refers to tea from private tea gardens located just outside Fushou Mountain Farm—specifically those along Fushou Road. With only a few tea gardens here and very limited production, we know of wholesale prices starting at NT$5,000 per 600 g directly from some gardens to tea merchants.

Are there more affordable Lishan tea options?

Yes! Low-elevation, poorly processed, rain-harvested, or heavily pest-damaged “summer or autumn teas” can be found for NT$1,200 to NT$1,500 per 600 g. These are typically sold cheaply to passing tourists and casual consumers. Quality-conscious tea merchants steer clear of this kind of tea.

Any recommendations for great-tasting Lishan tea?

Liao Chang Xing’s Lishan tea offers exceptional taste at a fair price. Every batch is carefully handpicked by our team, and the Lishan tea we source is guaranteed to be top-tier seasonal quality (roughly ranking in the top 5%). A professional tea merchant’s job is to filter out inferior teas and bring in the best for customers—and we feel we’re doing a pretty great job at that.
