Vietnamese Tea with a Cost of NT$146 per 600 g

Another batch of Vietnamese tea passed off as Taiwanese tea got busted. The frequency of these crackdowns lately shows the government is finally doing its job. The most ironic part of this recent news: Vietnamese tea costing NT$146 per 600 g was packaged as Taiwanese high-mountain tea and sold to consumers for NT$1,500 per 600 g 🫤🫤

As store manager, I have no issue with Vietnamese tea itself. After all, imported tea and Taiwanese tea differ vastly in quality, and we cater to a different clientele, so it doesn’t affect us. The real problem is passing off subpar imported tea as Taiwanese tea to unsuspecting buyers. Not only does it scam consumers, but it also drags down the reputation of Taiwanese tea—and that’s just crossing the line.
Plus, buying it for NT$146 per 600 g and selling it for NT$1,500 is a 10x markup. That’s insane profit margins, no wonder so many people are running scams.

The authorities have busted several operations over the past six months. Let’s hope they keep up the good work, and hopefully crack down on Shopee and Facebook sellers too 😂😂
