The Yushan tea region is located in Xinyi Township, Nantou County, with primary tea plantations situated in Shalixian, Tataka, Luona, Tongfu, and Shenmu. The tea gardens sit at altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 1,800 meters. Nestled in high-altitude mountains, Yushan tea is renowned for its exceptional throat feel and natural sweetness. Due to the terrain and environmental conditions, large-scale cultivation is not possible, making the production volume of Yushan tea quite limited.
Driving along the Central Cross-Island Highway, you’ll be greeted by scenic mountain landscapes and towering ancient trees, with the famous Yushan tea gardens nestled right within the primeval forests. The tea gardens are mainly distributed across Shalixian, Tataka, Luona, Tongfu, and Shenmu. Because of geographical and development restrictions, production is scarce. Despite the limited yield, its outstanding quality has made Yushan tea extremely popular and highly renowned both in Taiwan and overseas.
The main tea varietals grown in the Yushan region are Qingxin Oolong and JinXuan. The unique mountain climate imparts a wonderful throat feel and sweet aroma, making it a top-tier high-mountain oolong tea region.
