To brew the best-tasting Dongding Oolong tea, you only need three things: 1. Quality Dongding tea, 2. Spring water or mineral water, and 3. A passion for tea. Let us walk you through the steps to brew Dongding Oolong tea.
How to Brew Dongding Oolong Tea: The Right Tea-to-Water Ratio for Perfect Flavor
Tea amount, water temperature, and steeping time are the three core elements of tea brewing. Since every tea has a unique production process, harvest season, and oxidation level, these three factors should be adjusted to find the ideal brew. Below, we’ll use 100 ml of water as our baseline.
| Tea Leaves | The general recommendation is a ratio of 1:15 to 1:20, which means using about 5 to 8 g of Dongding Oolong tea for every 100 ml of water. If you don’t have a scale on hand, the amount of tea leaves should fill about 1/4 to 1/5 of your teapot. |
| Water Temperature | Use spring water or mineral water. If unavailable, tap water is fine, but avoid purified water. Water temperature should be 95°C to 100°C. |
| Steeping Time | For the first steep, brew for 60-90 seconds. If it’s too light, you can increase the steeping time for the second steep, then blend it with the first infusion to adjust the strength to your liking. |
Please note that there is no single fixed standard for brewing Dongding Oolong tea. Everyone’s taste is different. Simply repeat the steps above and fine-tune the amount of tea leaves and steeping time, and you’ll quickly master the perfect brew for your tea.
