Where to Buy Taiwanese White Tea?

Taiwanese white tea is currently produced in areas such as Pinglin District and Sanxia District in New Taipei City, as well as Zhongpu in Mingjian, Zhushan, and Yuchi in Nantou. The production of Taiwanese white tea is still relatively small-scale, so it’s best to contact the vendor to check inventory before driving out to these tea regions. Here are some of the major tea-producing areas:

  • Pinglin District, New Taipei City: Pinglin produces Qingxin Oolong white tea, Baimaohou white tea, Manzhong white tea, and more. In recent years, many tea farmers have specialized in making white tea, and its quality is highly praised within the tea community. Baimaohou white tea is considered the finest local white tea variety.

  • Sanxia District, New Taipei City: Sanxia has long been famous for its green tea and Honey Black Tea, and in recent years, it has also started promoting white tea. Made from the local Qingxin Ganzai cultivar, it features a unique sweet, downy aroma with a light, lingering sweet aftertaste.
  • Nantou Zhushan, Mingjian, and Zhongpu: In addition to Qingxin Oolong, they have recently welcomed a new addition: Taiwan Tea No. 25 Ziyun. This “purple-bud white tea” is not only sweet and smooth, but it also brews into a striking, light purple liquor. Even more remarkably, adding lemon juice turns it a lovely pink.

  • Nantou Yuchi: Nantou Yuchi white tea primarily uses large-leaf tea varieties, including Taiwan Tea No. 8 (Assam), No. 18 (Ruby), and No. 21 (Hongyun). These robust large-leaf varieties produce a white tea that is slightly richer and fuller-bodied than small-leaf varieties. Additionally, Taiwan native wild tea and Taiwan Tea No. 25 are also available and of exceptional quality.
