This year’s Lishan autumn tea started harvesting in late July, entering its peak harvest in early August. Current observations show “average” yields and “moderate” tea leaf quality—fairly standard for an autumn crop. 🫤🫤

Last year, the store manager gave the Lishan autumn tea a stellar score of 85, but for 2023, I can only give it a“72”. Neither the yield nor the quality matches last year’s, falling a bit short by Lishan standards. Plus, the weather from late July through August 2nd was mostly overcast with no heavy rain or bright sunshine, combined with slightly chilly temperatures, making the tea-making conditions “so-so.” None of the finished batches I’ve tasted so far have been particularly exciting.
A few tea gardens are looking quite promising and are scheduled to begin harvesting on August 5th. However, Typhoon Khanun brought quite heavy rainfall to the Lishan area on August 3rd, and with outer bands affecting the region over the next few days, it’s uncertain whether the harvesting schedule will be disrupted.

Lishan, Dayuling, HuaGung, and Sinjiayang will all be entering their peak harvesting season over the next few days. If everything goes smoothly, harvesting should wrap up by late August. I’ll let you know if I find any stellar batches. Catch you later!~
Aside: Last week, Typhoon Doksuri approached, and fruit farmers in Lishan were extremely worried, but fortunately, the damage wasn’t severe. This year, Lishan peaches are in season with bountiful yields, offering great prices and exceptional quality! Besides peaches, apple and sweet persimmon yields are also quite good, bringing great news for those who love Lishan fruit. Pictured is a cute cat posing under an apple tree 🤩🤩.
