Customer Inquiry: Hello, do you carry machine-harvested high mountain tea? This year’s spring tea is of pretty good quality, and I’d like to wholesale some to sell in China, but hand-picked tea is simply too expensive. Lishan, Yushan, or Dayuling are all fine, but machine-harvested Alishan tea would be even better. Thank you~
Chang Hsing Tea: Hello, and thank you for reaching out. When harvesting can’t keep up, some high mountain tea is indeed harvested by machine. In recent years, yields in Lishan, Yushan, and Dayuling have been lower, and harvesting delays are rare, so machine-harvested teas from these areas are less common. However, Alishan experienced frequent rain this season, so some tea farmers opted out of hand-picking, using machines instead to harvest during clear weather. If you’re interested, feel free to contact Chang Hsing Tea, and we can source some machine-harvested Alishan tea for you.
The machine-harvested high mountain tea currently available mostly comes from elevations around 1,000 to 1,200 meters (though some from 700 to 1,000 meters is also quite good). Because the tea leaves were harvested on sunny days, the aroma is remarkably good. The leaves are a bit fragmented, but they have already gone through stem and leaf sorting. The brewed tea tastes great, easily comparable to teas valued at NT$1,500 on the market. The tea farmer we consulted has an inventory of about 360 kg, with a minimum order quantity of 18 kg per order, and prices ranging from NT$600 to NT$900. Because the quality is solid, we expect it to sell out within 2 months. Just let us know if you need any.

Looking at current market conditions, machine-harvested Lishan tea is quite rare due to its naturally lower production volume and drier climate in Lishan. ShanLinXi and Alishan teas are somewhat more available. If needed, machine-harvested high mountain tea can usually be sourced within 2 months following the harvest. Feel free to reach out to Chang Hsing Tea if you have any inquiries.
