Hello tea lovers, the harvest of Alishan Spring Tea began in early April, entering peak harvest around the 10th. Now, the high-altitude tea gardens in Zhangshuhu and Shizhuo have also started harvesting. We enjoyed great weather from April 10th to the 15th, making the harvest very smooth. We expect to finish everything by the end of April.
2024 Alishan Spring Tea Growth Conditions
Compared to the severe century-drought of last spring, this year’s spring tea is definitely in much better shape—though that’s a pretty low bar. Rainfall is still “on the lower side” this year (News Report), so many tea gardens still lack adequate irrigation. Overall, the quality of this season’s spring tea can only be described as moderate. March was quite dry, and while a heavy rain came through on April 7th, 8th, and 9th, it arrived a bit too late to give the tea plants much of a boost. Farmers in Lishan and Ren’ai, Nantou were luckier; their tea was still in its growth phase, so that rainfall helped immensely.
That’s why this year’s Alishan Spring Tea really depends on having enough irrigation water. Only tea gardens with reliable water sources and proper fertilization manage to stand out in a dry year.
