Located in Taihe Village, Meishan Township, Chiayi County, the Taihe Tea Region is the most remote village in Meishan Township, yet thanks to tea cultivation, it has become one of its most prosperous communities. Sitting at elevations ranging from about 700 to 1,500 meters, the Taihe Tea Region belongs to the Alishan tea family, much like nearby Ruili and Fenqihu. Originally, Taihe’s economy relied on wild fig (Aiyu) and plum trees, but due to the strong market for tea, many local plum orchards have been converted into tea plantations in recent years. Visiting the Taihe Tea Region today reveals rows of neat, beautifully striking tea gardens.

The main tea varieties in the Taihe Tea Region are Qingxin Oolong and JinXuan. Below 1,000 meters, JinXuan is predominant, while above 1,000 meters, Qingxin Oolong is mostly grown. The soil and climate of the entire Taihe Tea Region are among the most ideal for tea growth within the entire Alishan tea area, resulting in exceptional tea leaf quality. Harvests take place across all four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—with spring and winter teas being the most sought-after.
