2022 Winter Tea Growth Update

We’ve got some mixed news for you all—the harvest for our 2022 winter tea is going to be delayed!

Usually, the winter harvest takes place about 60 days after the autumn harvest. However, the high mountains got cold early this year, so the tea leaves are growing a bit slower. Areas like Biluoxi and Farm Edge, originally scheduled for harvesting in late September, will now be pushed back to October. Many tea lovers have had their stocks running low for a while and keep asking when the winter tea will be released. Our store manager wants to apologize—there’s just nothing we can do when the tea takes its time to grow!

Still, slow growth has its perks. The tea leaves get to accumulate more nutrients, resulting in a richer, more robust flavor. This year’s winter tea will take 65 to 70 days, giving the leaves a few extra days to build up their flavor profile. Don’t underestimate those few days—that’s often what makes the difference between ordinary tea and premium tea. You really have a lot to look forward to with this year’s winter tea.

I checked in with the tea farmers at Biluoxi and Farm Edge; harvesting will run between October 5th and 10th, about a week behind schedule. High-altitude areas like Sinjiayang, Cuifeng, and Cingjing are delayed by about a week as well. This year’s winter tea will likely launch around October 10th (plus packaging time, of course).

Just a quick note: LongFengXia, Malieba, and Cuiluan, which sit below an altitude of 1,700 meters, will be harvested around mid-to-late October.
