Muzha Tea Region

The Muzha tea region is located in Wenshan District, Taipei City, at an altitude between 250 and 350 meters. Covering about 110 hectares of tea plantations, it primarily produces Tieguanyin, alongside small amounts of Pouchong and Oolong teas, with a total annual production of about 60,000 kg.

Originally, the primary crops in the Muzha area were green bamboo shoots and vegetables. Tea cultivation was introduced around 1980. Thanks to its excellent quality and proximity to the Taipei consumer market, it quickly gained popularity. The signature local tea is Muzha Tieguanyin, making Muzha one of only two Tieguanyin production areas in Taiwan (the other being Shimen District in New Taipei City), alongside Pouchong and semi-spherical Pouchong teas. It is also worth noting that Sijichun (Four Seasons Spring), one of Taiwan’s four major tea tree varieties, was discovered by Mr. Chang Wen-huei in the Muzha tea region, profoundly influencing the development of Taiwan’s tea industry.

Being close to the prime areas of Taipei and New Taipei City, the Muzha tea region is also a wonderful destination for hiking and leisure. The Maokong area near the tea region features numerous attractions, and local tea farmers have embraced the market by opening traditional teahouses. On weekends, many people enjoy heading up to Maokong to brew tea, take in the beautiful local tea gardens, and unwind, which has indirectly made Muzha Tieguanyin even more popular.
