Shizhuo, also known as Shizhuo or Shizhuo (石桌/石卓), is located in Zhonghe Village, Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, at an elevation between 1,200 and 1,700 meters. Blessed with an exceptional geographic location and premium tea quality, the Shizhuo tea region also serves as a major distribution hub for neighboring tea-producing areas. During every harvest season, it attracts numerous tea merchants, making it a vital center for Alishan tea production and distribution.
The Shizhuo tea region features abundant annual rainfall, an average humidity of 90.4%, and an average annual temperature of 20°C, making it an ideal environment for tea cultivation. Originally, bamboo shoots were the primary crop here. Tea plants were introduced in 1980; although initially met with reluctance from local residents, the cultivation area expanded year by year due to the excellent quality and profitability. By 1990, tea plantations had occupied nearly all arable land in Shizhuo.
Currently, the main tea variety cultivated in this region is Qingxin Oolong, alongside JinXuan and CuiYu. The total planting area is approximately 350 hectares. The Shizhuo teas produced here are predominantly lightly fermented and lightly roasted oolongs, marketed externally under the names “Shizhuo Tea” or “Zhulu Tea”.
The Shizhuo tea region is not only a major tea production hub but also serves as a key transportation nexus in the Alishan mountainous area, providing access to Fenqihu, Alishan, and other tea regions. Consequently, it has become a popular stopover for travelers and a central distribution point for Alishan tea.
