Qintang Maojian originates from Qintang District, Guigang City in Guangxi Province, and belongs to the green tea category. Mount Pingtian in Qintang is the premier production area for Qintang Maojian. Situated at an elevation of about 1,100 meters, it features low temperatures and a significant temperature difference of up to 12 degrees Celsius. Combined with loose, fertile soil rich in organic matter, the Qintang Maojian produced here is of exceptional quality and widely popular.
Qintang Maojian tea is crafted using the Dabaiicha (Big White) tea cultivar introduced from Fujian Province. The harvesting period runs from mid-March to mid-May, using tea leaves consisting of one bud and one leaf. Key characteristics include slender, straight, and well-defined strips, prominent pekoe (white down), and a vibrant green color, making it a top-tier Chinese green tea.
Production Method
The production process involves harvesting, withering, fixing (kill-green), cooling, rolling, strip-shaping, drying, sorting, and scenting—a rather complex procedure for green tea. Among these, Qintang Maojian is made from Fujian Dabaiicha, harvested in the spring as one bud and one leaf, yielding tea with prominent pekoe and the highest quality.
Aside from its delicious taste, the striking appearance of Qintang Maojian is another major feature. The rigorous rolling process is complemented by a dedicated strip-shaping step. The final scenting process enhances the tea’s aroma, making it an essential technique for crafting premium Qintang Maojian.
