Located in New Taipei City, Taiwan, Shiding belongs to the Wenshan tea-growing region and primarily produces Wenshan Pouchong tea and Shiding Oriental Beauty tea. Among northern Taiwan’s tea regions, Shiding ranks second in Pouchong tea production and first in Oriental Beauty tea.
Shiding has a long history of tea cultivation. In the early days, it served as a major collection and distribution hub for tea from Yilan County and the Pinglin area, bustling with merchants and travelers, which drove Shiding’s prosperity. Later, with the opening of the Beiyi Highway, tea and agricultural products from Yilan and Pinglin were increasingly transported via the highway, and Shiding gradually faded as a tea trading center.
Although Shiding is no longer a primary tea distribution hub, its exceptional climate ensures that the Pouchong tea produced here remains of outstanding quality. In recent years, strong promotion of Shiding Oriental Beauty tea—rivaling Hsinchu and Miaoli in both quality and yield—has once again turned the tea community’s attention back to Shiding.
