Regardless of elevation or tea quality, the Fanzitian tea region is a top-tier origin that can rival LongFengXia. While its altitude (800-1,650m) is slightly lower than LongFengXia, the difference is minimal. Facing primarily eastward, it enjoys better sunlight exposure than LongFengXia. As an emerging tea region, its soil vitality is rich and abundant. Overall, Fanzitian is one of the most promising and high-potential origins within the ShanLinXi tea family.

Abundant and Exceptional Fanzitian Tea
On the downside, while new tea regions benefit from rich soil vitality, the tall primary forests and bamboo groves surrounding the tea plantations can easily block sunlight, leading to a drop in tea quality. Lower-elevation teas also tend to have less stable quality. Additionally, Fanzitian’s tea-making equipment, irrigation, and plantation management still lag slightly behind LongFengXia.
All things considered, Fanzitian tea offers a great balance of quantity and quality, ranking near the top among all high mountain tea regions in Taiwan. When timing, location, and craftsmanship align, the chances of producing phenomenal tea are very high. Although it generally falls just short of LongFengXia, the gap is small and the price is significantly lower, making it a favorite spot for our shop manager to hunt for great teas.
Fanzitian Tea Region Elevation
The elevation starts at around 800 meters and reaches up to 1,650 meters—quite high for a high mountain tea region. The store manager considers the 1,200 to 1,500-meter range to offer the “best value.” Another major advantage is the abundance of “new tea gardens”; as of now (2023), many are young bushes under 10 years old. As you can see in the photos below, several newly cultivated tea gardens have emerged. The advantages of Fanzitian’s new tea gardens are likely to last for several more years. The image two below shows the elevation measured by a mobile app (based on Google mapping data), with the highest point exceeding 1,650 meters.
Characteristics and Advantages of Fanzitian Tea
- New Tea Region: The advantage of an emerging tea region lies in its fertile soil and youthful tea bushes. These young plants have strong nutrient absorption capabilities, resulting in a richer flavor and a higher likelihood of producing top-quality tea compared to older trees.
- Elevation Advantage: Reaching up to 1,650 meters at its highest point, the key production zone sits between 1,400 and 1,600 meters. While its altitude doesn’t quite match famous regions like Lishan or LongFengXia, it already holds strong competitive advantages in the high mountain tea sector.
- Yield Advantage: Within the ShanLinXi tea family, Fanzitian ranks near the top in production volume. The benefit of high yield is that tea merchants have a broader selection to carefully filter and grade, ultimately finding truly exceptional tea leaves.
- Outstanding Value: Set apart from tourist hotspots and relatively low in brand recognition, this may be a drawback for local farmers, but it’s a huge plus for tea merchants and consumers looking for great value. Compared to LongFengXia, the average cost is about a third lower; with a bit of searching, you can easily find high-quality goods at a bargain.
