Budongyu Tea Region: 1,700-Meter Budongyu High Mountain Oolong Tea

The Budongyu tea region sits right next to LongFengXia, with the two areas directly connected. One side of the mountain is LongFengXia, and the other is Budongyu—just around the corner. The tea gardens sit at an elevation of 1,500 to 1,700 meters.

LongFengXia Twin Tea Region: Budongyu Tea Region

These two areas are twin tea regions, differing primarily in their aspect and slope orientation. To be honest, the manager can hardly tell the difference in mountain aroma between Budongyu and LongFengXia teas. After all, they are on the same mountain with very similar elevations (1,500 to 1,700 meters).

Budongyu Tea Characteristics and Review

LongFengXia faces southeast, while Budongyu faces west; otherwise, their elevation and temperatures are nearly identical. Because the tea regions are so close, the manager often compares them. Observations over recent years show very little difference, though LongFengXia tends to have a slightly higher rate of top-tier batches. Even so, the gap between them remains minimal.

Just like LongFengXia, exceptional altitude, meticulous tea garden management, and advanced factory equipment are key advantages for Budongyu tea. The downsides are also similar: there can be a significant difference in quality between high-elevation and lower-elevation plots within the region. Additionally, the price is quite high, resulting in a lower cost-performance ratio.

Spring tea is harvested from late April to early May, and winter tea from mid-October to early November. Ershui, summer, and autumn teas are also produced. The primary tea cultivar is Qingxin Oolong. It is crafted as a lightly fermented oolong, along with a small amount of black tea (summer harvest).

Directions: Turn from Xishan Road onto the Sanchalun Branch of Daan Forest Road, and you will arrive in about 10 minutes. Google Maps

Manager’s Review: A twin tea region to LongFengXia, offering exceptional quality at a premium price. This is among the highest-tier ShanLinXi tea production areas.
