Liyang White Tea is produced around Tianmu Lake in Liyang City, Jiangsu Province, and belongs to the white tea category. While white tea originated in Fuding City, Fujian Province, Liyang has subsequently developed into an important production region. Liyang White Tea is characterized by its elegant aroma, and due to its challenging production process, it commands a very high price.
Liyang White Tea: A Renowned Chinese White Tea
Located by the shores of Tianmu Lake in Liyang City, Jiangsu Province, the area features undulating mountains, picturesque scenery, a mild climate, and abundant rainfall. Since ancient times, it has been an exceptional tea-growing region, producing many high-quality renowned teas. Among them, the white tea produced in Liyang is of particularly outstanding quality—some even rate it higher than Fuding White Tea, and it is widely exported and highly popular overseas.
The finest Liyang White Tea is harvested in early March during the spring, selecting single buds or a bud with one leaf. The harvesting standards are extremely strict: picking is not allowed on rainy days, overcast days, or from diseased leaves. After harvesting, the leaves are withered for 3 hours and sorted before production begins. The manufacturing process includes withering and drying, with withering being the most critical step—precise timing determines the quality of Liyang White Tea. Once completed, the drying process takes place. After drying, it becomes raw tea (maocha).
Tianmu Lake White Tea is the Finest Liyang White Tea
Among Liyang white teas, those produced around Tianmu Lake boast the finest reputation and quality, and local producers mostly market and sell them under the name Tianmu Lake White Tea. In recent years, Tianmu Lake White Tea has been rising to become a leading white tea producing region in China.
