Tianmu Lake White Tea: The Premier Origin of Liyang White Tea
Liyang City is a renowned tea region that has produced premium tea since ancient times. In 1999, the city established the Tianmu Lake White Tea brand, which became the highest-grade offering among Liyang white teas. It is characterized by vibrant green veins, jade-white leaf buds, a fresh and mellow sweet taste, and neat, uniform strips. Because spring yields the best quality Tianmu Lake White Tea, top-grade harvests can only be picked once—sometimes yielding only one bud and one leaf per pluck—making it quite expensive. Authentic, traditionally crafted Tianmu Lake White Tea typically costs over NT$1,500 per 500 g, and even then, availability is not always guaranteed.
You can also find Tianmu Lake White Tea on the market priced under NT$100 per 500 g, but these are usually not locally produced, or they are summer or autumn teas.
Production Method
Tianmu Lake White Tea is processed the same way as regular Liyang White Tea, primarily involving withering and drying. Tianmu Lake White Tea places great emphasis on its origin and harvesting season, with teas produced around Tianmu Lake during the spring offering the finest quality.
