Tunyuan Tea Region

The Tunyuan tea production area is located in Ren’ai Township, Nantou County, roughly spanning from the Lushan Tribe to the Tunyuan Mountain in the Jingguan Tribe. The tea gardens sit at altitudes ranging from 1,200 to 2,050 meters. Situated on the border of Nantou and Hualien, tea from this region was historically sold under the names of Lishan tea or Cingjing tea. With its highest points reaching an altitude of 2,050 meters, it produces exceptional high mountain tea and is considered by our store manager to be a tea region with an “exceptionally high chance of producing great tea.”

The main advantages are naturally its high altitude and the environment shaped by the cold winds of the Hehuanshan mountain range, which give this high mountain oolong high sweetness, low bitterness, and consistent quality. Another advantage is that Tunyuan tea is more affordable than Cingjing tea, making it a region with outstanding value for money.

The primary tea cultivar is Qingxin Oolong, alongside Yingxiang and JinXuan. Growing JinXuan in such a high-altitude tea region is relatively rare.

Store Manager’s Review: An exceptional tea region. The quality of high-altitude Tunyuan tea rivals that of Cingjing and Cuifeng while remaining more affordable. A high-value tea region you won’t want to miss.
